Preschool Ages 3 years old - 6 years old

The Primary Program at the Montessori School of Cheyenne nurtures each child's lifelong love of learning. The environment is open to meet the needs of the whole child; body, mind and spirit. The children work at their own pace with self-chosen materials. Our knowledgeable teachers carefully observe the needs of each child and present new lessons when the child demonstrates readiness. The child learns to respect himself, the environment, and others around them. As children learn and grow, they progress from Practical Life to Sensorial to Language and Math.  With Montessori, its more than just preschool; it's inspired, independent exploration that grows a life-long love of learning. Our Primary classrooms are full of Montessori materials that meet all the needs of the individual child.

  • Practical Life offers materials that serve as a foundation for skills that they will need in their future.  This area enhances the development of a sense of order, concentration, coordination, and independence.

  • Sensorial is an area that is intended to increase a child’s ability to explore the world using their five senses.  This is also the child’s first introduction to concept of mathematics through materials that teach weight, dimension, quantity, and measurement.

  •  Language is the area where the children focus on the development of oral and written language. The focus is on exploring the beauty of language with objects and hands on manipulation.

  • Mathematics materials promote self discovery of mathematical concepts.  The children are introduced to the decimal system, static and dynamic operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Science is an exciting area where the children begin to understand physical and natural science.  This area is full of hands on exploration!

  • Culture and Geography are areas that include the study of our world, history, and an appreciation and awareness of other cultures.

  • Enrichment offers participation in gross motor activities such as gymnastics and outside play time.  We also participate in a structured music program as well as providing music in our classrooms. Sign language is taught as well.
